2nd Annual Sunshine Sprint

Prudential Florida Realty is gearing up for the 2nd Annual Sunshine Sprint, a mini-triathlon event set to start at 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 1 at the Stuart Causeway.

Last year’s inaugural race was a tremendous success, raising more than $15,000 for The Sunshine Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. For more than 25 years, the organization has been committed to providing group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients receiving treatment in hospitals across North America. You can read more at www.sunshinekids.org.

Registration for the Sunshine Sprint is now underway. The USAT-sanctioned event will once again be held at the Stuart Causeway.

This year’s course consists of a .25 mile swim in the Indian River Lagoon, a 9.5 mile bike ride up Hutchinson Island to the Jensen Beach Causeway turnaround and back, and then a 2.6 mile run/walk over The Ernest Lyons Bridge to MacArthur Blvd. and back to the finish line.

This year, transition mats have been added for the athletes to time course changes, as well as their competition times.

Sponsors as of this writing include Deekun Home Health Equipment Services and Laurie Goldstein, P.A., Wallace Nissan, Eye Man Optical, Christopher J. Twohey, P.A., ReMax of Stuart, David Pittinos CFP, CLU, Horsepower Team, Merit Title, Betsy Lindsay Land Surveying and National Property Inspections.

It takes literally scores of people to put on an event of this nature, and the Sunshine Sprint committee includes co-chairs Mike Bouse and Catherine Winters, as well as Joan Rogers, Marcia Benson, Nicky Wingfield, Daniel Wade, Rick Boshen, George Angelucci, Lynn Pittinos, Ida Pelaez, Shirley Parker and Teri Zainc. All Prudential agents get behind this annual fundraiser.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to register on-line at www.sunshinesprint.com NOW to assure a spot in the race. Photo ID’s are required at check-in. Bike helmets are required for participation.

As a testimony to last year’s well run sprint, many of those who participated in it are already registered for this year’s race.

Mike Melton with M.C.Timing will once again officiate.

Participation at any level is encouraged. Last year, family teams featured children biking and parents sharing the swim and run. Some folks just walked the bridge - that’s okay, too.

The day is about being a ray of sunshine and raising money for children who would give anything to be able to participate.

While many members of the Stuart community are waking up for a first cup of coffee, you can join the professional atheletes and week-end warriors who will gather before sunrise for Prudential Florida Realty’s 2nd Annual Sunshine Sprint on Oct. 1 at the Stuart Causeway.
