PORT ST. LUCIE-Michael Kahane 15 year old Port Saint Lucie resident sustained a severe head injury after crashing into a causeway piling.
Michael Kahane was on his stomach on a tube being pulled by a personal watercraft operated by his mother's fiancé, Luke Fusco, now 29, near the Jensen Beach Causeway.
According to Colleen Kahane the victim’s mother Fusco pulled Michael Kahane under the causeway and the wake from another boat "sent him launching into one of the pylons,"
After being pulled from the water by Fusco and others, Michael Kahane was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach. He had a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain and was in a children's intensive care unit for 11 days.
Investigators with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission issued Fusco a notice to appear for a misdemeanor violation of a navigation rule resulting in an accident, and a non-criminal infraction for towing/manipulating the tube, causing it to strike a fixed object.
